This school year is going to be looking a little different for everyone. Whether you are going into class, staying home, or a mixture of both these five tips can help you have the best school year possible.
- Have a schedule. When I finished out last year online most of my classes did not meet at a specific time rather I just had assignments due at the end of the week. I made a schedule for myself of when to get work done and incorporated breaks. It was great and I ended the year on a high note!
- Have a checklist. It has been proven that physically checking off a list can boost a person’s mood and I certainly feel that way! Making a checklist of the assignments you need to get done and then checking them off as you complete them will help you stay motivated and feel a sense of accomplishment.
- Take time for yourself. School can be stressful and then the virus is adding on another level of uncertainty and stress. Make sure to carve out some time for yourself whether that is doing a face mask, reading a book for pleasure, or treating yourself to something special. It will bring down your stress level and also provide for a much needed break especially when finals come around.
- Take advantage of class meetings. Whether your class is meeting in-person or online take advantage of that time. It will bring about a sense of normalcy and for students it’s important to see other students and their teacher. It’s important for teachers to see their students too!
- Take each day one step at a time. I know this year being my senior year, I am anxious about a lot. How will I be able to student teach? Will I get much needed classroom experience? Will I be able to complete my tests? Will I be able to find a job after I graduate? However, virus or not life is unpredictable and sometimes we just need to take it one day at a time. Sure thinking and planning for the future is important, but sometimes we have to make the best out of today.
I hope these tips help you all out this year whatever your year looks like! Remember you can do this and my fellow teachers we will just be highly experienced in the online teaching department! Something that will make us very marketable. Hope you all have a great year!!
