The House on Mango Street is written differently than other books from Book Club, but the poetic style of Cisneros is impeccable.
Most of the stories are written about the people that Cisneros met while she was a little girl living on Mango Street, but some are about people she had recently met. The world through the eyes of a child is so detailed as compared to an adult. Children are better at observation.
My most favorite line is in the second to last chapter which says, “Only a house quiet as snow, space for myself to go, clean as paper before the poem”. Cisneros just has a beautiful writing style and this just sums up the book as a whole and shows the poetic style in a magnificent light.
My favorite chapter was Chapter 2 which is called Hairs. I liked it because our hair sometimes makes us who were are. It is a part of our identity just like our fingerprint with everyones’ hair being just a bit different than the next person.
